FotoMarathon

Six hours. Twelve photos. One unforgettable day. Think you’re up for it? September 12 is your chance to find out what you’re made of.

Despite the name, there’s no running involved. A FotoMarathon is a photography competition with a twist: within six hours, participants work through a series of themes, capturing one image per theme in the order they’re revealed. No editing, no skipping ahead, no going back. The rules are simple — and so is the idea. What’s not so simple is doing it well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Registration is $25 in advance and $30 on the day of the event. We recommend registering early — spots are limited.

Cancellations made at least 30 days before the event are fully refunded. After that, we’re unable to offer refunds due to event logistics — but you’re welcome to transfer your spot to someone else.

No post-processing is allowed — no cropping, color adjustments, or any other edits after the shot is taken. That said, all in-camera settings made before pressing the shutter are fair game: white balance, ISO, color profiles, multiple exposure, and so on.

Absolutely. You can shoot as many frames as you like for each theme and submit only your best. Just keep the order in mind — once you’ve moved on to theme 5, for example, you can’t go back and reshoot theme 3.

No. You’re free to approach each theme independently. That said, you’re welcome to work with a unifying thread across your images — just know it has no bearing on judging. Each photo stands on its own.

Unfortunately, no. FotoMarathon requires digital submissions, so film cameras aren’t compatible with the event format.

All submissions first go through a basic compliance check — correct number of photos, right sequence, no file manipulation. From there, a jury reviews the full set of entries and scores them. Both standout individual images per category and the best overall series are recognized.

Winners are contacted directly within about three weeks of the event. Results are then published here on the site for everyone to see.
